  7. SafeWord UNIX-Safe is a computer security system that positively verifies the
  8. identity of users attempting to access any UNIX system. UNIX-Safe accomplishes
  9. this through dynamic PassWord technology, permitting logon only after the user
  10. provides a single-use, dynamic PassWord, available only from a hand-held,
  11. electronic PassWord generator, called a Token. Standard UNIX security remains
  12. unchanged

  14. A Supervisor controls access with any combination of dynamic PassWords, fixed
  15. passwords, password aging, time, date, and day-of-week locks, logon limits, and
  16. attack detection and prevention. The length of the fixed and dynamic PassWords
  17. can be increased. UNIX-Safe maintains complete audit logs, available only to
  18. the system Supervisor, of all logons and attempted logons
  19.  
  20. Tokens currently supported include the SafeWord MultiSync card, the SafeWord
  21. AccessCard, the SafeWord key and Decoder, the WatchWord, and the SecureNet Key,
  22. and time-synchronous and biometric devices
  23.  
  24. UNIX-Safe is invoked from the shell field of the password file. Any user
  25. failing to pass the ID verification check is left without a shell, and,
  26. therefore, no access to the protected system. SafeWord also runs on VAX,
  27. Tandem, IBM/VTAM, Stratus, and IBM PCs. Users obtaining access with a Token on
  28. one system can be set up to be granted access to any other supported system
  29. using the same Token, rather than being dependent on different memorized
  30. passwords for each system. SafeWord UNIX-Safe is on the NCSC Evaluated Products
  31. list for Trusted Computer Subsystems.
